Hello, I’m Vanetta

My teenage sons, once vibrant, chatty, and everyone’s friend, suddenly told me they didn’t know how to make friends around middle school. I was confused because they were so outgoing when they were younger.

I realized that the problem was that before I was always the initiator by setting up playdates and I accidently overlooked that they never actually learned how to start a conversation.

As a mom, who used my background as an engineer and a teacher to make sure my kids was in advanced classes and who was always complimented on how smart and well-mannered my kids are, I thought I had all the answers. But realizing that your own child is struggling just hit differently.

“Mom, I don’t know what to say to people,” they both confessed one evening during one of the many car rides from practice. That’s when it clicked—all my professional knowledge wasn’t reaching them in a format they could actually use in those critical moments.

So I created what I wish I’d had earlier: A fun game of conversation skills they could review before social events or even slip into their pocket. The transformation wasn’t overnight, but it was remarkable.

Now, the original idea have evolved into Conversation Sparks. It dawned on me that other parents could use these too, and here we are!

These cards work not just for my sons, but for teens across all personality types. Because sometimes, the right words at the right moment can change everything.
